Knoxville Republican 15th (Old) Senatorial District Marion and Monroe Counties. Born on Marion County, Iowa, farm in Dallas-Melcher area June 16, 1897. Parents, W. A. and Etta Mason Hollowell, rural pioneer teachers. Graduate Indianola High School. A.B. degree with honors Simpson College, 1920. Three years high school teaching. In 1924 married L. C. (John) Shivvers, who developed an extensive agriculture and livestock operation on Fairacres Farm near Knoxville and Pleasantville. Three daughters: Marietta Carr, Topeka, Kan.; Martha Skillman and Charlotte Brown, Chicago, Ill. Member: Fairview Christian Church; local school board 1935-1950; Marion County Farm Bureau, Zoning Commission, Extension Council 1955-1960, Improvement Association 1958-1960, 4-H (honorary); Knoxville Women's Club; Pi Beta Phi and Epsilon Sigma fraternities; Iowa Master Farm Homemakers Guild; Simpson College Development Council. Elected Jan. 10 to fill vacancy created by death of Senator-Elect L. C. Shivvers Dec. 21, 1962.
