Educated in the public schools of Davenport, and attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport. A graduate of the law school at Drake University. Practices law as a partner in the firm of Filseth and Schroeder. Vice president and general counsel, General Life of Iowa. Married and the father of two children: Sandra and Walter. Served in the U.S. Navy Air Forces for three and one-half years. Member of the Masonic Lodge, Zerapath Consistory, Kaaba Shrine, Davenport Junior Chamber of Commerce, Elks, Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity, American Legion, and a member of the Lutheran Church. Served two terms in Iowa house of representatives. Now serving fifth session in the senate. Majority leader of senate in 58th General Assembly.
