JACOB B. MINCKS

MR PRESIDENT: Your committee appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Jacob B. Mincks, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Jacob B. Mincks was born August 26, 1913, in Davis County to Joseph and Susan Squires Mincks. Mr. Mincks passed away December 17, 1981, in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Mr. Mincks attended rural schools in Davis and Appanoose Counties and Moulton High School. He was a retired employee of the John Deere Ottumwa Works and held various offices including president of Local 74, U.A.W. and was a former vice-president of the Iowa Federation of Labor. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 114, and long time member of the United Auto Workers, Local 74.

Senator Mincks served as a member of the Senate in the 58th and 59th (1959-1962) General Assemblies and the 60th and 61st (1963-1966) General Assemblies. He is also survived by his wife, Mildred; one son, Larry J. of Ottumwa; and one daughter, Linda J. Grant of Des Moines; a brother, Thomas of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; two sisters, Florence Morrison of Moberly, Mo. and Olive Baxter of Eureka, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventieth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Jacob B. Mincks, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and that the Senate, by this resolution, expresses its appreciation of his service to his community, state and nation and tenders its sympathy and kindest regards to members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be entered into the Journal of the Senate and that the Secretary of the Senate be instructed to forward an enrolled copy to each member of Mr. Minck’s family.
