U.S. Army, 1942-46, with service in the China-Burma-India Theater. Educational Assistant, Institute of Local and State Government, University of Pennsylvania, 1946-47. Instructor of Political Science, University of Pennsylvania, 1947-49. Teacher at Grinnell College since 1949; presently Associate Professor of Political Science. Married Elizabeth Crosman, 1947. Father of three children: Tory (10), Betsy (8), and Keith (4). Associations: American Association of University Professors, American Political Scientists, Iowa Conference of Political Scientists, State Historical Society, American Legion, Farm Bureau. Member of Episcopal church. Served on Governor's Committee on Legislative Reapportionment, 1958-59. Elected to the Senate in 1958.
