Keokuk Democrat 1st Senatorial District Lee County. Born at Keokuk, Iowa, February 9, 1920. Graduated from Keokuk senior high school 1936. Attended St. Ambrose College, Davenport, Iowa, 1936-38; B. A. degree, University of Iowa 1940; J. D. degree, College of Law, University of Iowa 1942. Admitted to Iowa bar in 1941. U.S. Naval aviator 1942-46; Lieutenant U.S.N.R.; engaged in general practice of law in Keokuk 1946 to date. City attorney, Keokuk 1946-55. State Judge Advocate, Iowa Department American Legion 1947. Member St. Francis de Sales Catholic church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Elks club. Married Sally Hassett of Keokuk June 30, 1948; five sons. Elected to Iowa Senate in 1954.
