LAWRENCE A. FALVEY

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Lawrence A. Falvey begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Lawrence A. Falvey was born in Monroe County, Albia, Iowa, May 27, 1901, the eldest son of Michael and Ellen Falvey. He passed away in Albia on July 23, 1957, at the age of fifty-six years.

Mr. Falvey was educated in the Albia schools, attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, and was graduated from the State University of Iowa in 1925. While a student at the State University of Iowa he was elected to the scholastic honorary fraternity of Phi Beta Kappa. In this same year he married the former Katherine Ann Mull of Muscatine, Iowa, who survives him.

Mr. Falvey was President of the First Iowa State Bank of Albia and a partner in the Falvey Brothers lumber yard and farm. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, Albia Chamber of Commerce, Monroe County Farm Bureau, and past president of both the Albia Rotary Club and the Albia Country Club. Most of his life was spent in civic and community affairs, and even at the time of his death he was formulating plans to attend a meeting of the Interstate Cooperation Committee in Cleveland.

Lawrence A. Falvey, a Democrat, served in the Fifty-fifth, Fifty-sixth and Fifty-seventh sessions of the General Assembly. He was the second Falvey to serve in the House of Representatives; his father, Michael (Mike) Falvey, having been a member of the Forty-fifth, Forty-fifth Extra, Forty-sixth and Forty-sixth Extra sessions of the General Assembly. Both gentlemen had the distinction of being the only Democrat to serve as a committee chairman during the sessions they served in the House of Representatives.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-eighth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Lawrence A. Falvey, the people of Monroe county and the entire State of Iowa have lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant, and the House, by this resolution, would express its appreciation of his service, and tender its sincere and heartfelt sympahty to the members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the wife of the deceased.
