MR. PRESIDENT: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late W. Eldon Walter, begs leave to submit the following:

Eldon Walter was born near Marshalltown, Marshall County, November 14, 1898, son of Warren S. and Iva N. Walter. He received his education in the public schools graduating from the Beaman High School and Iowa State College.

Mr. Walter was united in marriage to Myrtle Bein of Beaman in 1928, and was the father of two daughters, Ardis Joan and Donna Elizabeth.

He started farming in 1928 and was actively engaged in farming near Beaman until his death. He promoted the general welfare of his community by working with numerous local groups. He was a member of the Methodist Church, several Masonic bodies, Odd Fellows Lodge, Sigma Pi Fraternity and the Republican party.

Mr. Walter was elected by the voters of Marshall County to represent Marshall County in the House of Representatives for the Forty-ninth, Fiftieth, Fiftieth Extra, Fifty-first, Fifty-second, and Fifty-second Extra General Assemblies and in the Senate for the Fifty-third, Fifty-fourth, Fifty-fifth, and Fifty-sixth General Assemblies.

Mr. Walter is survived by his widow, Myrtle of Beaman, his daughter, Ardis, who is with the Extension Department of the Iowa State College, his daughter, Betty of Beaman, one brother, Paul Walter of Union, Iowa, and one sister, Vivian (Mrs. I. H. Wentzien) of Gladbrook, Iowa.

There, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Fifty-seventh General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Eldon Walter, our state has lost a fine citizen whose service to his community and whose representation of the citizens of Marshall County in the State Legislature have been most commendable and valuable.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread on the Journal of the Senate and that the Secretary of the Senate be directed to forward an enrolled copy to each member of the family of the deceased.
