ALLERT G. OLSON

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Allert G. Olson, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Allert G. Olson was born in Rudd Township, Floyd County, Iowa, March 13, 1896, the son of Martha M. and Martin B. Olson. He attended rural schools, Cedar Valley Seminary, Osage High School and, following graduation, attended Iowa State College. He left college to enlist for World War I, serving overseas with the 88th Division.

Mr. Olson married Rikka M. H. Haugen in 1927. To this union were born four children: Yvonne, Aida, Joyce and A. Gilman, Jr.

He was a pioneer of rural electric co-operatives in the Midwest, serving as president of the Co-op Electric Co.; secretary of Dairyland Power Co-operative; vice president of Iowa Rural Electric Co-op; and director of the National Rural Electric Co-operative Association. He also served as a director of the Home and Trust Savings Bank of Osage.

Mr. Olson was an active member of the Osage Evangelical Lutheran Church, the American Legion, Commandery, Consistory and Shrine.

Mr. Olson, a Republican, was a member of the Fifty-first, Fifty-second, Fifty-third and Fifty-fourth General Assemblies, representing Mitchell County. He passed away on April 11, 1976.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty-sixth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the late Honorable Allert G. Olson, the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and the House by this resolution would express its appreciation of his service, and tender its sympathy to the members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
