Bedford Republican 6th Senatorial District Adams and Taylor Counties. Born on a farm near Nashua, Iowa, July 18, 1903, daughter of Duncan (deceased) and Lillie Kay MacCulloch. Later moved to Nashua with parents. Graduated from Nashua high school; attended Grinnell College; graduated State University of Iowa, B.A. degree; attended University of Wisconsin and University of Colorado. Teacher of government, economics and history in schools of Iowa and Illinois for fifteen years. Present Grand Esther of the Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star of Iowa. P.E.O., Chapter CU, Bedford. Former State Auditor of the Iowa Council of Republican Women's clubs. Member of Presbyterian Church. Member of board of curators of State Historical Society of Iowa City. Bedford Library board; county president of Iowa Children’s Home Society. Married February 7, 1937, to Ole John Kirketeg who was then state Senator. While serving as Iowa State Senator Mr. Kirketeg passed away and Kathlyn finished his term and was then elected as the first woman senator in the state of Iowa.
