County Attorney Shelby county three terms. Secretary County Attorneys' Association of Iowa. Author of History of Shelby county. Former member Iowa National Guard. Republican County Chairman several terms. Delegate Republican National Convention 1920. Republican presidential elector at large 1944. Married 1898 to Clyde Beryl Cobb, S.U.I. alumna. They have two sons, Leland C. and Ed. S. Jr., both lawyers, graduates of S.U.I. liberal arts and law. Member Congregational church, Kiwanis, Masons, Knights of Pythias, Phi Beta Kappa, and Sigma Nu. Elected to fill vacancy in Senate, November, 1944.
