A graduate of Maynard high school, business course at Upper Iowa University and dairy industry course at Iowa State College. Married December 25, 1901, to Lena M. Struthoff of Maynard, Iowa; father of four children, Gladys June, John Howard, Irving Paul and Robert Dale. Has operated a 320 acre dairy farm in Fayette county continuously for 35 years, specializing in pure-bred Holstein-Friesian cattle. Elected to the senate in 1936.
