A graduate of the Dysart high school, and holds a B.A. degree from the University of Iowa. Married to Corinne Deardorf of Churubusco, Indiana. One son, Robert, is a junior at the University of Iowa, and one daughter, Jeanne, is a freshman at the Iowa State Teachers College. Served as senator in the extra session of the 45th general assembly. Re-elected in 1938.
