WILLIAM N. JUDD

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable William N. Judd, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

William N. Judd was born at Schuyler, Nebraska, May 4, 1887. He passed away at Des Moines, Iowa, January 13, 1955.

He moved with his parents to Clinton at the age of two and was educated in the Clinton public schools.

He became a barber at the age of 15. In December, 1906, he entered the service of the Chicago, Northwestern Railway as a freight brakeman. He was promoted to conductor in 1913; to terminal yardmaster at Belle Plaine, Iowa, in 1919, and to terminal yardmaster at Clinton, Iowa, in 1923, which position he held until he retired two years ago.

He married Katherine Paulson in 1906, who passed away May 10, 1951. On December 9, 1952, he married Olga Willke Herrick.

He was a member of the Clinton City Council from 1926 to 1934, then served as Mayor of the City of Clinton two years, 1943-1944.

Mr. Judd was elected Representative from Clinton County in 1936 and served in the Forty-seventh, Forty-eighth, Forty-ninth, Fiftieth, Fiftieth Extra, Fifty-fourth, Fifty-fifth and Fifty-sixth sessions of the General Assembly.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Masonic Order, Eagles, Moose and Elks lodges, the Lions Club and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

Mr. Judd is survived by his wife, Olga, and a son, Orrin, of Clinton.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-sixth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable William N. Judd, the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant, and the House, by this resolution, would express its appreciation of his service, and tender its sympathy to his wife and the members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
