Clinton County Republican William Nelson Judd, born in Schuyler, Nebraska, May 4, 1887. Moved to Clinton, Iowa, when two years of age. He was elected to the House for his seventh term, in November 1954. A few days after being sworn in as a member of the 56th General Assembly, he was stricken and died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, on January 13, 1955. Burial at his home in Clinton. John W. Carlsen of Clinton was named at a special election called to fill the vacancy.

Was a barber when fifteen years of age. Married Katherine Paulson in 1906, who passed away May 10, 1951. Married Olga Willke Herrick December 9, 1952. Has one son Orrie Judd of Clinton. Entered service of Chicago-Northwestern Railway as a freight brakeman December 17, 1906. Promoted to conductor in 1913. Promoted to terminal yardmaster at Belle Plaine, Iowa in 1919. Promoted terminal yard master in Clinton, Iowa 1923. Member of the Clinton city council 1926-1934, then served as mayor of the city of Clinton two years, 1943-1944. Member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, American Railway Supervisors Association, Masonic fraternities, Shrine, Moose, Eagles, Elks and Lions club. Member of the Methodist church. Is now serving sixth term as a member of the House of Representatives.
