LEWIS BLATTSPIELER

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Lewis Blattspieler, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

The Honorable Lewis Blattspieler was born July 29, 1885, at Ackley, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Lucian Blattspieler. He died July 1, 1952, at the age of 67 years.

He attended school at Ackley and later graduated from the Highland Park College at Des Moines, Iowa, where he received a pharmacy degree.

Mr. Blattspieler was married to Amelia A. Holstad of Northwood, Iowa, on August 18, 1915, and to them were born three children: Lois, now Mrs. Wilbur J. Graber of Wayland, Iowa; Virginia, now Mrs. Raymond F. Bublitz, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Robert of Manly, Iowa.

Following his graduation from college, Mr. Blattspieler was employed at Ackley, Eldora, Northwood, Bradford, Mason City, and Clark Lake, Iowa. In 1923 he purchased a drug store at Manly, Iowa. Since that time he has been identified with all the phases of community life and was popular with old and young alike. His congenial, friendly manner was an outstanding trait.

In 1934 Mr. Blattspieler was elected State Representative on the Democratic ticket and served one term, in the Forty-sixth General Assembly He formerly served on the town council and on the school board at Manly, Iowa.

He was a member of the English Lutheran Church, the Iowa Pharmaceutical Association and of Rainbow Lodge No. 625, A.F. & A.M.; also the Shriners and Consistory.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of The Honorable Lewis Blattspieler, the state has lost a valued and ·honored citizen, and the House would tender its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of his family in their sorrow.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
