Senator from the tenth district, composed of Henry and Washington counties, was born in Washington, Iowa, September 1, 1886, the son of Seneca B. Dewey and Elinora Smouse Dewey. Educated in the Washington schools, the Washington academy and graduated from Drake university, department of commerce, in 1906. He was married to Pearle Parke Fox of Washington. In 1908 he became a partner in the Fox and Dewey shoe store of his home city and operated that business successfully for thirteen years. Since that time he has managed his farms and other properties, besides being interested in other business activities. For twenty years he has been identified with state and national conservation work. He has been president of the Washington county chapter of the Will H. Dilg Conservation League of Iowa and is state vice president of this organization. He is a member of the Masonic lodge and also of the First Presbyterian church of Washington. He was one of the organizers of the first congressional district nonpartisan tax league of Iowa. Elected to the senate in 1934. A republican.
