FRANK M. BEATTY was born March 18 1882, near Thornburg, son of James and Sarah Murphy Beatty. He graduated from Thornburg high school, and when a young man taught school in South Dakota. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Iowa Wesleyan college of Mt. Pleasant, and master of arts degree and bachelor of law degree, from Northwestern University of Evanston, Illinois. In 1910, the year he received his law degree. he entered law practice in Hedrick. On being elected Keokuk county attorney a year later he moved to Sigourney, and was partner for 12 years with D. W. Hamilton, who was later a District court judge. A republican, Beatty was elected Iowa State Senator from the 12th district in 1926 and served eight years in all, being reelected for a second four-year term in 1930. He married Lois Gibbons of Thornburg. He was a member of the Sigourney Presbyterian church, and served as elder and deacon; a member of the Sigourney Masonic lodge since 1923, and also a 32nd degree Mason in Iowa Consistory of Cedar Rapids, and a member of Kaaba Shrine of Davenport. He was a member of the Iowa Bar association, and the Keokuk county bar association.
