Representative from Pottawattamie county, was born in LeClaire, Scott county, Iowa, November 18, 1860. Came to Pottawattamie county with his parents in 1877, and followed farming. Was married to Lena Horst, January 19, 1886, who died June 22, 1887, leaving him with an infant son, Alfred. Moved to Avoca and was manager for an elevator company ten years. Served a number of terms as city councilman and mayor; as a member of the board of education eleven years; three years as president; many years as a director and secretary of the Pottawattamie County Fair Association, and is a director and vice-president of the Avoca State bank. Married to Amelia Sievers April 30, 1890, who died December 31, 1929. Three children were born to this union; Clarence and Ada having preceded their mother in death, and Bertha, now Mrs. Robert True. Serving first term in the legislature. A democrat.
