FRANK M. STEVENS

MR. PRESIDENT: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Frank M. Stevens, begs leave to submit the following:

Frank M. Stevens was born on a farm near Salem, Illinois, May 14, 1872. He went to Chicago at the age of fifteen, an orphan, and became superintendent of Empire Warehouses, Inc., of Chicago at the age of 26.

Mr. Stevens was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Payne. They have three daughters, Martha, Helen and Evelyn.

In 1903 the family moved to Iowa and Mr. Stevens entered the mercantile business at Floris. In 1920 he moved to Garden Grove, Decatur County, and continued in the mercantile business there.

Mr. Stevens was a member of the Methodist Church. He served in the Forty-fifth, Forty-fifth Extra and Forty-sixth General Assemblies as Senator from the fifth district. He was appointed to the Board of Control by Governor Clyde L. Herring for a term of six years.

Mr. Stevens passed away February 3, 1960, at his home in Garden Grove.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Fifty-ninth General Assembly: That in the passing of Frank M. Stevens, the State of Iowa has lost a valuable and honorable citizen and by this resolution tenders its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of the family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread on the Journal of the Senate, and that the Secretary of the Senate be directed to forward an enrolled copy to each member of the family of the deceased.
