FREDERICK D. AUGUSTINE

Mr. Speaker: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character, and public service of the late Honorable Frederick Deforest Augustine, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Mr. Augustine was born near Orient, Iowa, Adair County on August 21, 1887, where he grew to manhood. He graduated from Orient High School in 1906, attending Drake University afterward. He was united in marriage to Miss Jessie M. Wade in 1912 and moved to Benton, Iowa in 1913 where he was engaged in business. He was a lumber implement dealer at the time of his election. Later he moved to Des Moines and was a parole officer and agent for the Iowa Board of Parole.

He lived in Des Moines for fifty years and was a member of the Highland Park Christian Church, Auburn Masonic Lodge, Auburn Order of Eastern Star 499, and the Des Moines Consistory.

A Democrat, Mr. Augustine was elected and served as Representative from Ringgold County in the Forty-fourth, Forty-fifth and Forty-fifth Extra General Assemblies.

Mr. Augustine died July 25, 1982 in Des Moines, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Jessie M.

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventieth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Frederick Deforest Augustine, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and the House by this Resolution would express its appreciation of his service.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
