GEORGE M. VOSSELER

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable George M. Vosseller, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

George M. Vosseller, son of Sanford and Margaret Hirleman Vosseller was born Febuary 15, 1874 and passed away at Mercy Hospital, Waverly, Iowa, March 7, 1953. He was born on a farm in Lafayette Township, Bremer County, where he spent fifty-six years of his life before retiring to his home in Waverly in 1930. He received his early education in rural schools, later attending Waverly High School. On March 4, 1897, be was united in marriage to Mamie Larkin of Plainfield, Iowa. To this union was born five children, Earl and Mrs. Vern Schield of Waverly; Loey and Edward of Plainfield. One daughter, in infancy, preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Methodist Church of Waverly; Tyrell Lodge 116 A. F. and A.M. and the Order of Eastern Star. Mr. Vosseller was very active in civic affairs. He was president of the Farmers State Bank of Plainfield for eighteen years, which position he held at the time of his death. He served one term as Representative in the Forty-third General Assembly. For several years he was a member of the Bremer county board of supervisors and served as township clerk for a number of years. He was a member of the local school board for twenty years; had served as an officer with the Butler-Bremer Telephone Company; as treasurer of Bremer County Farm Bureau and also president of the Bremer County Fair Association. He had also served four years as a member of the official board of the Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow, one daughter, three sons and seven grandchildren; also two sisters, Mrs. F. F. Lynes, Long Beach, California, and Mrs. Jennie Lynes of Waverly, who is the mother of W. S. and J. K. Lynes, members of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly. One sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held in the Waverly Methodist Church and burial was made in Willow Lawn Cemetery, Plainfield, where the Masonic service was held.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of The Honorable George M. Vosseller the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant, and the House by this resolution, would express its appreciation of his service, and tender its sympathy to the members of his family.

Be It Rurther Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
