Representative from Clinton county, was born near Elvira, Clinton county, Iowa, March 3, 1865, the son of John F. and Eliza H. Rice. His parents were natives of Indiana county, Pennsylvania, who came to Iowa in 1864. In 1867 the family moved to the farm now owned and occupied by the subject of this sketch where he has since continuously made his home. He was educated in the local schools. Has been engaged in the occupation of farming all his life. He has been honored by being elected to the following offices: Secretary of school board, school director, township clerk, township assessor, county supervisor and state representative. He married Dorathea S. Christiansen of De Witt, Iowa, a native of the same county as himself. He is a member of the Lutheran church and the Masonic order, and is a republican in politics.
