HEIKE A. RUST

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Heike A. Rust, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Heike A. Rust was born in Franklin County, Iowa, on December 12, 1883. He graduated from Sheffield high school; attended Des Moines University for two years and later attended Iowa State College, at Ames. He was actively engaged in farming after leaving Ames.

He was president of the Sheffield Community Creamery; director of the Franklin County Mutual Insurance Association; was township clerk for eight years; was secretary of the County Farm Bureau for five years, and was active in Farm Bureau and other community activities.

He served as Representative from Franklin County in the Iowa House of Representatives during the Fortieth, Fortieth Extra, Forty-first and Forty-second sessions of the General Assembly. He was a Republican.

He was married to Miss Gladys Stubblefield, of Ipava, Illinois on October 8, 1921. He died at Passavant Hospital, Jacksonville, Illinois on August 22, 1951. Funeral services were held August 24, 1951, with interment in Diamond Grove Cemetery, Jacksonville, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, one son Paul, who served in World War II; a daughter Elizabeth Ann Doolin, who is teaching school, while her husband is in service; and another daughter Tena Mae Martin, who is with her mother, while her husband is serving in Korea. He is also survived by five brothers and one sister.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa, That, in the passing of the Honorable Heike A. Rust, the State has lost a valuable and honored citizen and the House expresses its appreciation of his character and public service and tenders, by this resolution, its sincere and heartfelt sympathy to his beloved family in their great sorrow and loss.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
