OSCAR ANDERSON
MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Oscar Anderson, begs leave to submit the following memorial:
Mr. Anderson was born in LaSalle county, Illinois, January 22, 1872, and passed away August 12, 1951. When two months old he moved with his parents to a farm in Decatur county, Iowa, near Lamoni.
He attended the rural schools, the Lamoni High School, and graduated from Highland Park College of Des Moines, Iowa. He taught school in Lamoni, Iowa, for three years.
He was cashier of the State Savings Bank of Lamoni, having been connected with it since its organization July 1, 1898. He owned and operated a farm. He was elected Mayor of Lamoni in 1920, and served for two years. He was a member of the Lamoni school board for twenty-three consecutive years, and was also chairman of the Decatur county hospital board.
Mr. Anderson married Ella Belle Kelley on June 28, 1906. To this union were born three children, Oscar Kelley, Richard Carol, and Margaret Belle. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Mr. Anderson was elected Representative from Decatur county in 1924, serving in the Forty-first Session of the General Assembly. He was a Republican in politics.
Mr. and Mrs. Anderson lived in Des Moines several years prior to his death. He was Budget Director and worked in the Tax Commission office for several years. He was ill three years. His son, Richard Carroll, preceded him in death.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife; one son, Oscar Kelley, who is president of the New England Life Insurance Company and who resides in Boston; one daughter, Mrs. Harry G. Barnes, living in New York City; one grandchild, Oscar Kelley II; a host of relatives, friends and acquaintances.
Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Oscar Anderson, the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant, and the House, by this resolution would express its appreciation of his service and tender its sympathy to the members of his family.
Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
