Representative from Decatur county was born in LaSalle county, Illinois, January 22, 1872. When two months old he moved with his parents to a farm in Decatur county, Iowa, near Lamoni. He has resided in or near Lamoni ever since. Attended the rural schools, the Lamoni high school and graduated from Highland Park College of Des Moines. Taught school in Lamoni, Iowa, for three years. Is cashier of the State Savings Bank of Lamoni, having been connected with it since its organization July 1, 1898. Owns and operates a farm by hired help. Was elected mayor of Lamoni in 1920 and served for two years. Has been a member of the Lamoni school board for twenty-three consecutive years. Is chairman of the Decatur county hospital board. Married Ella Belle Kelley June 28, 1906. They have three children, Oscar Kelley, age 17; Richard Carroll, age 14 and Margaret Belle, age 12. Is a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Was elected representative in 1924. A republican in politics.
