HONORABLE ROY HANEY

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a resolution commemorating the life, character and public services of the late Honorable Roy Haney of Mills county, Iowa, begs leave to submit the following:

Representative Roy Haney was born near Silver City, Mills county, Iowa, on July 28, 1878. He grew to manhood at the farm home near Glenwood, Iowa, where he was graduated from high school, followed by a course in Business Administration.

On January 16, 1907, he was united in marriage to Pearle Mintle in Glenwood, Iowa, where he has lived continuously since. In early life he became interested in farming and real estate and at the time of his passing he had built for himself an enviable record as a business man whose advice and business judgment were sought by many.

He gave generously of his time to civic affairs, serving several terms as Mayor of the City of Glenwood. He served as the President of the Chamber of Commerce of his city, and also served many years as treasurer of the Glenwood public schools. He was a member of the Methodist church and served in many official capacities with the church and gave freely of his time, energy and substance. He was a member of the Masonic Order, also of the Order of Eastern Star, having filled the highest offices of these orders. He was a member of the Mills County Building and Loan Association and was its president at the time of his death.

In politics he was a Republican and served his community and state well. His greatest political honor came, however, when he was elected as State Representative for Mills county and served in the Forty-first, Forty-second and Forty-second Extraordinary sessions. His record in the legislature shows that he was always for the common man, of which he was one.

Roy Haney died suddenly on February 10, 1941. He is survived by his wife. The glory of his life was his living; the test of his worth was his serving; his life and his service were his success–there is no greater, there is no other. His life and his service may be silent in the grave, but his influence will go on until time itself shall end.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fortyninth General Assembly of the State of Iowa in Regular Session, That in the passing of the Honorable Roy Haney, the state of Iowa has lost a valued and honored citizen, and a man of character and worth, and the House of Representatives of Iowa, by this resolution, tenders its sympathy to the family of the deceased.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.

ARCH W. MCFARLANE,

EARL C. FISHBAUGH, JR.,
