Representative from Fremont county, was born May 1, 1864, at Sterling, Whiteside county, Illinois. Came with his parents to Fremont county, Iowa, in 1877. He attended the grade and high schools of Rock Falls, Ill. and later at Riverton, Iowa. He was raised and worked on a farm until 1892. Was united in marriage February 26, 1888, to Cordelia Simmerman of Farragut, Iowa. He entered the mercantile business in 1892 at Farragut, Iowa, continuing twenty-eight years. Served as clerk of his township sixteen years, township committeeman twelve years, secretary to the county central committee two years. A member of the Congregational church, a Mason and a Modern Woodman. Elected representative in 1920, a republican in politics.
