He attended the grade and high schools of Rock Falls, Ill., and later at Riverton, Iowa. He was raised and worked on a farm until 1892. Was united in marriage February 26, 1888, to Cordelia Simmerman of Farragut, Iowa. He entered the mercantile business in 1892 at Farragut, Iowa, continuing twenty-eight years. Served as clerk of his township sixteen years, township committeeman twelve years, secretary to the county central committee two years. A member of the Congregational church, a Mason and a Modern Woodman. Elected representative in 1920 and re-elected in 1922. A republican in politics.
