Senator Meredith, of Jasper county, Iowa, was born in Poweshiek county, Iowa, in 1867. His father was a native of North Carolina, and his mother a native of Indiana. They moved to Poweshiek county in 1857, where they resided until 1881, when they moved to Jasper county, Iowa. Senator Meredith graduated from the high school at Lynnville in 1887, and attended Penn College at Oskaloosa. He then took charge of his father's farm and live stock business, which has been his principal occupation. He was married to Hattie E. Hunt, of Martinsville, Ohio, in 1890, and to this union four sons and one daughter were born. Senator Meredith has filled the office of township trustee, and member of town council. Was elected representative from Jasper county to the thirty-fifth and thirty-seventh general assemblies, and was elected state senator in 1918. A republican in politics.
