Decatur County
Who represents the Fifth senatorial district, comprising the counties of Decatur, Ringgold and Union, was born in Mercer county, Mo., 1870, and moved with his parents to Iowa in 1882. He has been a resident of Decatur county practically all his life. He attended the rural schools, the Davis City high school, Central Normal University, from which he graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science, and the State Teachers' College. In 1899 he was elected county superintendent of schools of Decatur county and served four years. Before that time and some time after leaving the county superintendent's office he was a school teacher, both in the graded and rural schools. In 1904 he was married to Miss Della Cherrington and they have two children, a boy and a girl. He is a member of the M. E. church. He belongs to the I.O.O.F., A.F. & A.M., K. of P., M.V.A. and Homestead lodges as well as the O.E.S. He has been chairman of the republican county central committee the past four years. He is now secretary of the Leon Carnegie Library Board. He has been president of the Leon School Board the past year.
