MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Oscar C. Sorlien, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Oscar C. Sorlien was born October 15, 1890, at Bode, Iowa, and was the son of John and Bertha Sorlien.

He attended Bode Academy and Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. On May 26, 1915, at Decorah, he was married to Lottie Alstad.

Mr. Sorlien entered the banking business in Bode, Iowa, and while living in Humboldt county served as a Republican Representative for that county in the Thirty-eighth General Assembly.

Mr. Sorlien moved to Mason City, Iowa, in 1925, as a deputy collector of internal revenue. In 1940 he established the Sorlien Tax Service in Mason City.

He was a charter member of the Central Lutheran church in Mason City, a life member of the Iowa Tax Association, member of the Iowa Pioneer Lawmakers Association, and a member of the Iowa Society of Independent Accountants.

Mr. Sorlien is survived by his widow, Lottie; son, Charles J. Sorlien, Minneapolis, Minnesota; two granddaughters; a sister, Mrs. Henry Lorge, five brothers, Henry, Minot, Albert, Magnus and the Reverend S. O. Sorlien.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-eighth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Oscar C. Sorlien the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful servant, and the House, by this resolution, would express its appreciation of his service, and tender its sympathy to the members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
