Senator from the Fourth district, composed of the counties of Wayne and Lucas, was born at Corydon, Iowa, May 25, 1887. His parents located in Corydon at an early date and the subject of this sketch has spent his entire life at Corydon, graduating from the high school in 1905. Four years later he graduated from the State University of Iowa with a degree of Bachelor of Arts. He immediately engaged in the newspaper business as publisher of the Corydon Times-Republican, the oldest newspaper in Wayne county. He was never a candidate for any public office until he was elected to the senate in 1916, being the youngest member of the senate of the thirty-seventh general assembly. He enlisted in the army and served until his discharge on December 24, 1918. He is single and a republican in politics.
