ELLIS J. HOOK

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare suitable resolutions commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Ellis J. Hook, of Winneshiek county, Iowa, begs leave to submit the following report:

Ellis J. Hook, who represented Winneshiek county in the Thirty-eighth General Assembly, was born in Jazewell county, Illinois, on December 5, 1870, and passed away at Decorah, Iowa, on December 25, 1942.

Mr. Hook received his education in Hopedale, Illinois, High School, Brekenridge Institute, Decorah, Iowa, and the University of Iowa. In 1893 he was married to Miss Minnie M. Reed, Decorah, Iowa, who passed away in April, 1940.

Mr. Hook served as county superintendent of schools of Winneshiek county from 1899 to 1909. He was also one of the original incorporators of the Decorah State Bank, mayor of Decorah during World War I and a member of the Decorah Public Library Board from its origin in 1915 until the time of his death.

Mr. Hook is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Sanford Hook, Des Moines, Iowa; John Hook, Grundy Center, Iowa; Roy Hook, Albion, Iowa; Mrs. Jennie Ireland, Oskaloosa, Iowa; and Mrs. Ella Stiles, Decorah, Iowa.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fiftieth General Assembly, That in the passing of this honored citizen, the House wishes to tender by this resolution its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of his family in their sorrow.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be instructed to send an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
