Representative from Winneshiek county, was born on a farm in Tazewell county, Illinois, in 1870. Spent his youth on the farm and in rural school. He spent one year at Hopedale high school and engaged in teaching until 1892, going then to Grundy county. In 1893 he entered Decorah Institute, graduated therefrom and remained two years as teacher. Was principal and city superintendent until 1899 he was appointed county superintendent, elected and served four successive terms. Was a member of the Iowa State Teachers Association, Iowa Educational Council, State Teachers Reading Circle Board. He spent one year traveling and in 1909 entered a law office going then to the State University and graduated from the college of law in 1912. He returned to Decorah forming a partnership with C. S. Boice under the name Boice & Hook. Was chairman of the county central committee, mayor, and president of library board. Married Miss Minnie M. Reed, in 1898. Elected in 1918. A republican in politics.
