Representative from Buchanan county, was born in Lake county, Illinois, June 20, 1864. He is a son of Charles H. and Elizabeth Ann (Rawson) Taylor, both of whom are of English descent. His education was acquired in the Iowa public schools and at Upper Iowa University, where he graduated in 1887. That fall he entered the Methodist ministry and has spent twenty-five years of the best of his life in that work, serving as pastor of East Janesville, Marble Rock, Greene, Cresco, Osage and Independence. In 1901 his Alma Mater conferred the degree of D. D. This was in recognition of a series of four important text books on bible study, of which he was jointly the author. The first text book studies on the Life of Christ, the manuscript of which was prepared by him, has had a very large sale, having been adopted as the official text book of the Epworth League, the United Society of Christian Endeavor, Methodist Episcopal Church South, Presbyterian Church South and by the Canadian young people societies. Three years ago Mr. Taylor asked the conferences to relieve him of the responsibility of a pastorate and has since that time devoted his attention to his fine farm, adjoining Independence, but speaks nearly every Sabbath, supplying for all denominations. June 12, 1889, He was united in marriage to Miss Nellie M. Huie, who is also a graduate of Upper Iowa University. Elected representative in 1914, and senator in 1916. A republican in politics.
