Senator from the Second district, composed of Jefferson and Van Buren counties, was born in Kingward, West Virginia, July 15, 1870, of German ancestry. Lived in West Virginia until twenty-two years of age. Graduated from West Virginia Normal School in 1890 and from the University of West Virginia in 1891. Choosing the ministry as his life work he came to Iowa, March 9, 1892. Held the Methodist pastorates at different times in Mahaska, Jefferson, Louisa and Van Buren counties before settling down in Farmington to become an editor. Married Miss Elsie M. Longakar and to them have been born four children. Is a member of the Masonic order. Also a member of the Odd Fellows. Elected senator in 1912. A republican in politics.
