HONORABLE CHISTIAN SALTZMANN

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee appointed to prepare resolutions commemorative of the life, character and public services of the Honorable Christian Saltzmann, of Chickasaw county, Iowa, beg leave to submit the following report;

Christian Saltzmann was born in Alsace, France, April 25, 1856. He came to America in 1870 and located in Dubage county, Illinois, engaging in farming. He moved to Iowa in 1880 locating on a farm near Lawler, Chickasaw county. He remained in Chickasaw county, Iowa, until the time of his death, which occurred on October 31, 1935.

He was united in marriage on June 27, 1878, to Miss Magdelina Baker, who preceded him in death. There are five children, Sadie, Alma, Leo, Leander, and Ronald who mourn the death of their beloved father.

In politics Mr. Saltzmann was a democrat and served as representative from Chickasaw county in the Thirty-fifth General Assembly. He served on the board of supervisors of Chickasaw county for six years and was chairman of that board for five years.

He took an active part in common welfare acting from time to time on school boards and cooperative organizations, and has always stood high in the confidence and esteem of his associates. He was a member of the German Lutheran church of New Hampton.

Therefore, Be It Resolved, That in the passing of the Honorable Christian Saltzmann, the state has lost a valuable and honored citizen, and the House would tender by this resolution, its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of his family in their sorrow, and

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be instructed to send an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
