HONORABLE GEORGE W. SPEER

MR SPEAKER: Your committee which was appointed to prepare suitable resolutions commemorating the life, character, and services of the Honorable George W. Speer, beg leave to submit the following report:

George W. Speer was born in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, November 18, 1855, of American parentage of Scotch Irish descent. Both parents were also born in Pennsylvania. He died February 4, 1935.

He was reared on a farm and received a common school education. In the spring of 1887 he removed to Indianola, Warren county, Iowa, where he engaged in the abstract, real estate, loan and insurance business, which he continued until his final sickness.

Mr. Speer was married in 1905 to Miss Ethelda U. Nixon, of Page county, Iowa, who survives him and resides at Indianola. Mr. Speer has served his community two terms as city alderman, and many terms as notary public. He was elected as state representative in 1910, and served one term with distinct credit to himself and his county.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Forty-sixth General Assembly, That in the passing of the Honorable George W. Speer the state has lost a faithful servant and valuable citizen, a man of high ideals in living and citizenship, and

Be It Further Resolved,That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
