GEORGE A. KELLOGG

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable George A. Kellogg, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

George Airis Kellogg was born May 19, 1872, at Missouri Valley, Iowa, where he made his home his entire life, with the exception of occupying a winter apartment in Omaha in recent years. He passed away May 9, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, shortly before his 80th birthday.

His parents, Lorenzo and Joanne Airis Kellogg, were of English and Scotch descent and were long-time residents of Harrison county. His father was a pioneer financier, whose capacity for wise and judicious banking he inherited, along with substantial property interests.

Mr. Kellogg was educated in the common and high schools of Missouri Valley and attended Cornell College at Mount Vernon, Iowa, one year.

He began work as a clerk in the C. H. Deur Lumber and Coal Yard in 1889. In 1895 he entered the employ of the First National Bank of Missouri Valley as assistant cashier, and served that institution as president from 1901 until the time of his retirement a few years ago, remaining as a member of its board of directors until his death. Besides heavy bank and financial investments, Mr. Kellogg owned and supervised operation of over 5,000 acres of Harrison county land.

Mr. Kellogg served as a member of the Thirty-second, Thirty-second Extra and Thirty-third Sessions of the General Assembly. He was very active in civic affairs, holding the office of city treasurer of Missouri Valley for a number of years, and acting as chairman of the Harrison County Republican Committee for the years 1903 to 1905.

He was a member of the Masonic Order, Knights of Pythias, Modern Woodmen, Elks and Yeomen.

Mr. Kellogg was married in 1901 to Ruth E. Noyes, who preceded him in death. His surviving widow is Margaret W. Kellogg of Omaha, Nebraska.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable George A. Kellogg, the people, not only of Harrison county, but of the entire state of Iowa, have sustained a great loss.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.

T. J. FREY,

JIM O. HENRY,
