GEORGE E. GRIER

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late George E. Grier, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

George E. Grier was born on a farm in Poweshiek County on March 18, 1876. He passed away at Kirkland, Washington, on February 25, 1954.

Mr. Grier was raised on a farm and received his early education in the rural public schools. He graduated from the high school of Deep River in 1895 and the same year entered Iowa College at Grinnell, graduating in 1900.

For two years he was principal of the high school at Deep River. He was connected with the State Bank at Deep River, and later with the bank at Iowa City from 1910 until 1921. He then moved to Seattle, Washington, and was an appraiser for the government until the time of his death.

Mr. Grier’s wife was accidentally killed in 1945. They were the parents of four children.

He was an ardent and active Republican, having served on the Republican Central Committee for several years. He served Poweshiek County in the Thirty-second, Thirty-second Extra and Thirty-third sessions of the Legislature.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-sixth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable George E. Grier, the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant, and the House by this resolution, would express its appreciation of his service, and tender its sympathy to the members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.

GEORGE L. PAUL,

MAHLON N. BROWN,

FRED VOIGTMANN,

Committee.
