Madison County

Senator from the Sixteenth District, composed of the counties of Madison and Adair, was born in Crawford township, Madison county, August 31, 1869. His father and mother were both born in Ohio. Attended the public schools, Des Moines College and the State University of Iowa, receiving his A. B. degree in 1891. Taught school; afterwards served as County Superintendent of Madison county from 1894 to 1898. Attended Yale University from 1897 to 1899and received the degree of Ph. D. from that institution. Was elected Senator in 1899, re-elected in 1903. Original author of the State-wide primary measure, introducing the same in the Twenty-ninth, Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second General Assemblies. Elected captain of Company G, Iowa National Guard, March 11, 1901, and served until August 5, 1904. Is now engaged in the practice of law at Winterset. A Republican in politics.
