Representative from Scott county. Born in Blue Grass township, Scott county, Iowa, of German parentage. His parents were among the early pioneers of Iowa, settling in Davenport in 1846. He acquired his education in the common schools of the county and the Davenport Business College. He was married in 1886 and settled on a farm, from which he retired fifteen years later, and moved to Davenport, where he became connected with several manufacturing concerns, namely, the Davenport Malt and Grain Company and the Moline Voting Machine Company, being also an extensive land owner. He devotes most of his time to the care of his farms and other interests. He was elected to the Legislature in November, 1903, and was re-elected in 1906, serving in the Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second General Assemblies.
