Representative from Jasper county. Born in Carter county, Kentucky, of American-born parents. Was raised on a farm and attended common school until the outbreak of the war, when he enlisted in 1861 in the Tiger Home Guards to protect homes in that part of Kentucky. Served until March, 1863, in that service, then moved with his parents to Jasper county, Iowa, and enlisted as a recruit in the Third Iowa Cavalry. Mustered out July, 1865. After the war he engaged in the sawmill and lumber business until 1874, then went into the grain and live stock business. Has been farming and feeding cattle and hogs for the past six years. Was an alternate delegate to the national convention at St. Louis in 1896. Was elected Representative in 1903 and re-elected in 1906. Served during the Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second General Assemblies.
