Born October 24, 1795, in Washington County, Virginia. He emigrated to Iowa in the fall of 1847, previous to which time he had been for upwards of 20 years, a prominent citizen of his native county and State. He was Sheriff for a term of years and for three years a member of the Virginia legislature. He had also been a member of the Iowa legislature serving in the Third General Assembly, 1850. For upwards of two years previous to his death he held the office of Judge of the County Court of Jefferson county. He was married to Dorcus Logan, a native of Washington County, Virginia. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
