John T. Jay
Carroll County
A native Iowan represents Carroll county in the house this winter, the second term which the Hon. John T. Jay, of Manning, has served. He was born at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, April 19, 1850. He received his education at Howe's academy, in that town. Mr. Jay was married to Miss Anna Mary Dollner in February, 1879. They have no children. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. and K. P. lodges. He has no religious preferences, but in his home town contributes liberally to all the religious organizations in their financial welfare. In 1868 Mr. Jay located in Audubon, where he resided for six years, removing from that town to his present home, Manning. He is in the clothing business, which has been his avocation since he started for himself with the exception of five years spent in school teaching. He has made a faithful legislator, serving his constituents loyally. He is glad to see this winter more of his own party, the democratic, represented in the assembly, and thinks it will make the session all the more interesting. Last session he acted on the committees on railroads and commerce, retrenchment and reform, public health, board of public charities, senatorial districts, and fish and game. He has been an ardent supporter of the manufacturer's bill, and desires to see a proper control of the liquor traffic.
