MR. SPEAKER–Your committee to draft resolutions of respect to the memory of Hon. Joseph A. Edwards, respectfully report as follows:

WHEREAS, We recognize and appreciate the great worth, ability and influence of this our deceased brother, in all the many positions of trust and responsibility held by him, as a faithful and patriotic veteran of Company B, 139th Illinois infantry; as a graduate of our own State university; a lecturer in the law department of the same; as a successful lawyer of great ability, and as an honored member of the Twenty-seventh General Assembly of the state of Iowa,

Resolved, That in his lamented death, his friends, the legal profession of the State, the community in which he lived and the state of Iowa, loses a manly man, an influential citizen and a man of splendid influences and ability. That our hearts are touched with sadness because of his death, and we extend our sympathy to those nearest him and whose sorrow is so much the greater,
