W. H. MCACHRAN was born at Shelbyville, Illinois, in November, 1847, and died at Bloomfield, Iowa, April 21, 1917. He came with his parents to Bloomfield when only six months old. When a lad of seventeen he entered as a clerk the drug store of A. D. Gibbons. He later became a partner and upon Mr. Gibbons’ death in 1907 became sole owner, retaining the business until his own death. For twenty years he was a member of the board of regents of the Southern Iowa Normal School at Bloomfield. In 1895 he was elected representative and served in the Twenty­sixth and Twenty-sixth extra General Assembly.
