CHARLES FLETCHER BAILEY was born near Chillicothe, Ohio, April 3, 1842, and died at Colorado Springs, Colorado, while there visiting a son, on April 18, 1925. Burial was at Wyndmere, North Dakota. His parents were John and Susannah Bailey. They removed with their family to Linn County, Iowa, in 1850, and to Black Hawk County soon thereafter. From there Charles F. enlisted in Company E, Fifth Iowa Infantry, July 1, 1861, and served throughout the war. Returning home he engaged in farming, later removing to Ireton, Sioux County. In 1895 he was elected representative from Sioux County, and was re-elected two years later, serving in the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh general assemblies. In 1899 he was chosen state commander of the Grand Army of the Republic and served the following year. In 1902 he removed to Barney, North Dakota. After the death of his wife in l919, he made his home with a son at Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
