Arba Loraine Stuntz
Story County
There is probably no man better known among Iowa farmers than the Hon. A. L. Stuntz, of State Center. From his boyhood up he has lived on a farm and being now in the neighborhood of 60 years of age he is not likely to change to any other pursuit. It is through the Farmer's Alliance that he has became known all over Iowa. He was for some years president of the organization and was very active in forming branches everywhere. Being one of the practical farmers himself he had the confidence of the tillers of the soil. Conservative and unselfish, he used his position and influence not to benefit himself, but worked entirely for the interests of those who looked up to him for guidance. He was born in Erie county, Pennsylvania, and beyond the common schools of his native state he had no farther education. But he improved his evenings at home and by the light of the tallow dip gained a great deal of knowledge which has come useful to him in late years. He has been a resident farmer in Story county for a long time. His first term in public office was when he was elected to the House of Representatives to the Twenty-fourth General Assembly by-the Republicans.
