Among the medical men in the legislature is Dr. John W. Lauder, of Alton, Union county. Herkimer county, New York, was the place of his birth and 1850 the year. While he was quite young his parents moved to Iowa and after giving him all the advantages afforded by the district schools, sent him to the Iowa Wesleyan University at Mount Pleasant, Subsequently he attended the State University at Iowa City and graduated from the medical department in 1874. He belongs to the. Masons, and is also a member of the Phi Delta Theta college fraternity. He has always voted the Republican ticket, and this is his first venture in the political field.
